Hey everyone!
Just giving you all a little update.
Round 5 was last week. Mom has been doing pretty well regarding the circumstances. She has had quite a bit of pain in her lower back, nausea, and drowsiness from all the pain medication. She had to go to the doctors the last couple of days to get some extra IV fluids due to her nausea. Thankfully, I think these symptoms are improving. Usually the first week of chemo is the hardest on mom, but as well all know, she is super strong, and hanging tough as always. Must be the German in her!
We met up with her brother, Hillis and his wife Pat yesterday for dinner. It was nice seeing them and catching up. Whenever family is in town, it makes me wish they all lived closer to us.
Kathleen turned 22 yesterday as well! We of course had to embarrass her with the Applebees' "Happy Birthday" singing servers. I think she secretly liked it though :)
Mom and I have been working diligently on the family scrape books. We have 6 were doing now, and we're finally almost finished with a few :) I don't think I realized how big of a project this was, but it has all been worth it!
I'm also trying to figure out something else we can do with mom that doesn't take much effort (since she is pretty drowsy lately). Sooo... if anyone has any ideas, please let me know! Hope everyone is doing well! Love you all!!
Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of ideas. One we did with Sue in December and she loved it. We rented a hotel room on Harbor Island that had a balcony and view of the water. This was so that we could see the Parade of Lights. This year the parade of lights is Dec 11th and Dec 18th.
We had a few of Sue's closest friends and family. Sue hung out on the bed or chair and rested and enjoyed being with everyone. They when the parade started we put a chair on the balcony and watched it together. We decorated the room, and the railing of the balcony. Actually we hadn't thought of decorating until we saw other families doing it and they shared their items with us. It was great! We had some fun food too. Then everyone except the sisters went home and the three of us spent the night.
Also, we could do an Agent Family/Schoberg family s'mores party INDOORS and use the fireplace. We are not having our usual one because we are going out of town. But, we could do a miniature version indoors.
Sometimes I think when someone is going through a trial like this it is good to just get bundled up and go outside. We have a wheelchair or Sue's walker if that would make things easier. The walker has a place for your mom to sit down. This enabled Sue to still go places but rest when she wanted. There are some lovely places in the Wild Animal park to cherish the outdoors, experience nature, and watch the children go by. We have guest passes.....
Also, remember our timeshare and our resortime. A rental in the mountains or the beach even just to sit and admire the beauty is good for the soul. Although I am sure your mom cherishes being at home, sometimes little times away perk up the spirit. I am sure we could find somewhere local using our timeshare. Consider it Heather......Actually right now we have so many points we have to use, we may just need to give you some for free.....
Oops forgot one. The Mission Inn in San Bernadino is AMAZING. Al and I stayed there for my birthday but I guess at X-Mas they go ALL out. The lights and the decorations are amazing.
Which reminds me driving to see the x-mas lights, or checking out the Hotel Del, seeing a x-mas concert at the Center for the Arts in Escondido. They have an Irish show this Friday.
Or what Mom's cherish best is just cuddling and relaxing with her children....watching old movies that she watched with you when you were little, going through old pictures. Just loving each other......Call me and I can help set you up with any of these....Love, Sal and Al
